Killarney Rugby Club News 21st Oct 2014

Mini Rugby:

Killarney minis are now up and running, for the 2014/2015 season. We are delighted to say that we have great numbers at all age groups and are training really well. We will be hosting our round of the West Munster mini festivals on Saturday the 1st November and expect strong numbers from Listowel, Castleisland and Kenmare. We would welcome any of our players return from previous seasons or anyone who wishes to try rugby for the first time. This section of the club is for players born between 2003 and 2008, and we cater for both boys and girls. We would also welcome any adults who would like to get involved at any level irrespective of their knowledge or experience of rugby union. Queries Dora 087/2196569. Gum shield required.

U14s:

Our U14 team had a great win on Saturday-week over Killorglin. On a sunny Saturday morning, the game was played in a very sporting manner by both teams. Killarney took an early lead when Conor Sheahan scored a well taken try, which he converted himself. He also kicked a penalty and Sean Murphy scored a try converted by Chris Carey to give Killarney the lead. Killorglin replied with 3 penalties, leaving the score at 17 pts to 9 pts in favour of Killarney. The second half of the game started with Killorglin scoring a good try which was converted. Killorglin went on to score a 2nd converted try to give them the lead and make for a tense final few minutes. Up popped Conor Sheahan to score his 2nd try converted by Sean Murphy to win the game for Killarney in the final minutes of the match. Best for Killarney were Adam Walsh, Craig McKenzie , Dion O’Neill and Diarmuid Cahill.

Senior Club:

Munster Junior Challenge Shield was cancelled last week due to inclement weather and unplayable pitches. Just as well as we had a few bodies missing. Killarney host Waterford City this weekend at Dirreen at 2.30pm in the Munster Junior League Div. 2.

Under 16s:

U16’s are away to Tralee, bus from High Street at 10am. Under 18s are away in their first Combination Fixture with Killorglin as a joined force. They travel the good spin to Midleton. They have an early start to be at LIDL car park at 9:30am. The under14s have a bye in their competition this weekend.

Night at the Dogs:

Tickets are on sale for a night of pure fun and sport on November 22nd – a Saturday night to remember and they can be had from any club member.

Aghadoe development:

There is a great cover of grass now and the whole site has been tidied around the pitches to date. The main gates are under construction with a fine stone going into place. New gates will soon be hung to adorn a fine entrance to the grounds. A new sign has been erected and stands proudly adjacent to the gates. It will be a fine entrance to our new home. We continue to source funding from wherever we can and the Night at the Dogs will be a major boost but we must sell the tickets.
