Last Sunday, Killarney RFC hosted the third round of the Girls-Only blitzes, in perfect playing conditions. The venue was the pitches at St. Brendan’s College and we hosted 70 girls from 6 clubs namely Tralee, Killorglin, Abbeyfeale, Kanturk, Bruff and Listowel. It was great to see such vibrant colour around the pitches and the quality of rugby on show was fantastic.

We would like to thank everyone who traveled from near and far to Killarney for such a wonderful and historic occasion for our club. To have teams travel from Cork and Limerick highlights the Munster wide interest in developing girls rugby. Our girls section has really developed over the past two seasons the club has worked very hard to push girls rugby in the area. It was great to see other clubs come to take part.

KRFC would like to thank all the hard working coaches who looked after the girls on the day, ensuring everyone enjoyed some really fast flowing rugby from U10 to U13. Thanks to Liason Officer Denise Treacy for all her hard work in organising along with coaches Liam Murphy, Peter O’Shaughnessy and Fiona Landers and toall the parents who stepped in to give assistance on the day. We were very lucky to have the use of the Sem pitches, kitchens and changing areas and would like to say a special thanks to Sean Coffey for his support as always, very much appreciated.

Next up Killorglin will host the next round in February and in we have a bus travelling to Dublin to watch the Women’s 6 Nations Match against France. This will be a great day out for our girls and with the breaking news today that Kerry’s own Ciara Griffin will captain the Irish team, we are sure excitement will be very high on the day!
