Last Sunday, the 13th of September a busload of Killarney RFC players, coaches and parents traveled to Dublin to take in some of the Women’s Rugby World Cup action. With 2 games on the cards, this day was always going to be action packed. The UCD Bowl was the venue and the event was sold out well in advance with the entire event garnering much interest right across the country. The visit of the Women’s World Cup Trophy certainly peaked the interest last June and the trip couldn’t come fast enough for everyone.
Cheering on Ireland!
The weather held up well despite the forecasters giving rain for the afternoon and the first of two matches that were watched saw the USA annihilate Spain on a 45-0 scoreline. The crowd got into the match but the big focus was on the second match, which would see Tom Tierney’s Ireland take on Japan. The Japanese didn’t read the script however and ahead by points at half time as the occasion got the better of the home team in the first half, however Ireland ran out winners in the end, much to the joy of everyone who traveled up for the big match.
Soaking in the atmosphere
It was particularly enjoyable for our KRFC girls who travelled up with their parents and to see the likes og Ciara Griffin, Ciara O’Connor and Louise Galvin represent the Kingdom on the team really was great to witness. Well done Irelandon the win and here’s hoping that the Irish team can go all the way!
