KRFC News: New Year

 In Club

Seniors:

The Senior XV were due to resume playing following the Christmas break. The next round of the Junior League – a game against Carrick-on-Suir, was due to be played last Sunday, however Carrick were unable to travel so the game was postponed. The lads are away next Sunday to Young Munster in Limerick. Best of luck to Ger Moynihan and his charges for the year ahead.

KRFC U14’s:

Thomond 24 Killarney 19
Killarney U16s traveled to Limerick for this previously postponed league fixture. As is Killarney’s crux at this stage, they conceded an early score practically from the Kick off, with a skewed clearance kick intercepted for Thomond to score under the posts. From Killarneys restart, Thomond built and once again Killarney found it hard to get into the game, with ten minutes gone and No8 Barry Slattery going off injured Thomond scored again 12-0. Killarney responded well and scored two fantastic team tries through many sets of hands with Conor Sheahan (15) touching down twice and one conversion by Kieran F O’Connor, 12-12.
Killarneys defensive effort against a vastly bulkier pack, was eventually breached by two late and quick tries by Thomond leaving the score 24-12, with time nearly up, Killarney were awarded a penalty try (converted by Kieran F, once again), with two killarney players taken out after a grubber by Conor Sheahan. Once again massive improvement shown by Killarney and really showing some great signs of progression. Next game home next Saturday 9th jan v Listowel Ko 11am.

Minis:

Our minis return to training next Saturday morning. As per the month or so prior to Christmas and due to the bad conditions, we will have the U10’s training at the Astroturf in Fossa between 10 -11 am, while the U12’s will train between 11 – midday. The U6/U7/U8 group will train in the Sem Gym hall at St. Brendan’s College. For any queries contact Mini Co-Coordinator Liam Murphy on 087-4145662

Flag Day:

The club held our Annual Flag day last Thursday and we made a princely sum of €1,200. Coordinator Mike Fuller would like to sincerely thank everyone who gave up their time, by facing down Storm Frank and doing the hard yards on undoubtedly the worst day of the year. Thanks to everyone for getting out to shake the buckets around the town. and a huge thanks to the public for their generosity.
