Killarney Rugby U16 side took on Chorca Dhuibhne RFC in the Munster Club U16 Competition on a bright sunny Morning in Aghadoe last Saturday. Killarney opened the scoring after five minutes with an excellent try scored out wide by Pierce Slattery. Composing himself young Slattery steadily converted the difficult kick.  After the restart Chorca Dhuibhne replied with a big drive from their forward pack and but for some outstanding defensive tackling by Killarney’s Alex O Leary, Daire O Brien & Christopher Doody were denied any points.

Killarney now growing in confidence saw their number 8 Sam Buckley on his debut for the club burst through the Chorca Dhuibhne defence with some outstanding power & drive to touch down for Killarney’s second try, excellently converted by Pierce Slattery.

The restart saw some confident ball carrying from Chorca Dhuibne which brought them inside the Killarney 22, and but for some excellent defensive work by Gerard Mc Carthy & Cameron Rowe preventing a sure try. Turnover ball had Killarney on the attack again and the ever present and powerhouse that is Darragh Mc Cormack saw him receive the ball on the halfway line and sprint in for Killarney’s third try, again converted by Pierce Slattery. Killarney’s Power game now really starting to pay dividends. Alex O Leary with his power and straight running was next to hit the whitewash and again expertly converted by Slattery. A second try for both Sam Buckley & Darragh Mc Cormack saw Killarney in total control now. Killarney were expertly driven on by their Captain on the Day Stephen Walsh. Walsh was ably assisted by Finn Kennelly who played 10 for the day. Both men demanded more, and it was now the turn of Shane O Sullivan who had an excellent game at 15 to touch the whitewash.

Chorca Dhuibne kept Killarney pinned inside their own half for the final 10 min with drive after drive in an attempt to Score and were unlucky after finding the whitewash to have a foot in touch.

Great credit must go to both teams for some great rugby played.
