St. Patrick’s Da y 2016 held true to form with gorgeous weather, which allowed for a great turnout in the parade and particularly so by Killarney Rugby Club. We had a great crowd from our minis take part in the parade – the theme this year being ‘Ireland – Past, Present and Future’. To this end, it was decided to have the kids hold signs of past Ireland rugby legends including Peter Clohessy andPaul O’Connell as well as the current crop of stars. In a particular nod to diversity, we focused on the players with diverse backgrounds such as C.J. Stander ( Originaly from South Africa).

The kids had a wonderful time along the route as they met friends and family along the way and the chant “Killarney RFC” rang out even louder than the myriad of Pipe Bands and bag pipes to be heard on the day.

On Monday the14th of March, Under some brilliant sunshine, KRFC hosted over 130 5th and 6th class girls from local Killarney schools at our pitches in Aghadoe. Under the stewardship of Ray Gadsen and Denis Corridan, with help from other munster branch coaches, the girls were put through their paces as they played games which introduced them to the basics of the game. KRFC was well represented on the day with some great assistance given by Denise Treacy, April O’Leary and Liam Murphy.

This Saturday, we will be offering rugby training for 5th and 6th class girls at Aghadoe. Training will take part each saturday between 10:30am and midday, as we aim to build a ladies section in the club. All are more than welcome to come along and try it out. Details: Denis Corridan 086-8375142 or Liam Murphy 087-4145662.

Killarney RFC Minis host our postponed round of the West Munster blitz on Saturday the 02nd of April next. We would ask all parents who are available to give any help to let us know. We need parking stewards, people to help giving out the food after the blitz etc. As this is the first ever Minis blitz at our new home in Aghadoe, we would like to show off our new home to our visitors from Listowel RFC, Kenmare RFC and Iveragh RFC and ask for your help. Please let us know if you can help in any way.

Also we would ask all parents to bring some baked goods, sweets, crisps  or soft drinks no matter how big or small on the day. We will have lots of small (and bigger) mouths to feed after the matches and would like to be able to offer the wonderful hospitality that Killarney and KRFC has become known for.

If there is any way you can help, please let me know.

Regards and thanks in advance,

Liam Murphy – Minis Coordinator (087) 4145662
