Killarney U16 girls played UL Bohs/Garryowen in the Munster Cup at Aghadoe last Saturday, treating us to a strongly contested game of rugby. Our opponents got off to a flying start scoring three tries and two conversions to go ahead 19-0 in the first fifteen minutes.
Killarney then took on the game for the next fifteen minutes and ran in four well taken tries by Annie O’Reilly, Melissa McCarthy, two by Holly O’Sullivan along with three superbly taken conversions from the boot of Eliza O’Sullivan.
Ul Bohs/Garryowen scoring one more to close out the half. The score at half-time was 26 – 26 with everything still to play for. Unfortunately Killarney failed to put points on the board in the second half and UL Bohs/Garryowen ran in four more tries with a final score 48-26.
The scoreboard didn’t do justice to the Killarney performance in the second half with Nell Crowley, Ella Guerin-Crowley, Isabella O’Leary, Joanne O’Keeffe, Jess O’Sullivan and Eliza O’Sullivan showing great determination. A big thanks to TJ Brosnan for refereeing duties.
Killarney player of the game was Melissa McCarthy, always living up to her reputation, Melissa kept battling until the final whistle.
