Killarney made the trip to Limerick to play Shannon last Saturday and secured an exceptionally good win on the road.

Played in tricky conditions the Killarney team started strong and first to get on the score sheet was Killarney centre Katie O’Donoghue for her first of four tries, which Fia Whelan converted.

The intent to play running rugby in difficult conditions was testament to the Killarney girls skill set. After a loose Shannon clearance Fia Whelan gathered on the halfway line, made a super run, and scored a great individual try, next up to score was O’Donoghue after a great carry by Ava O’Malley. Which left the score at half time 0-19 to the visiting team.

The girl from the Black Valley scored her third and her teams fourth try three minutes into the second half which Bronagh Dorrian converted. After some good forward play by Shannon, they scored under the posts to leave the score 07-26 to the visitors.

With twenty-five minutes to play Killarney made a number of positional changes, which did not affect the teams play and Killarney added the final score of the game with eight minutes left on the clock, scored by who other than Katie O’Donoghue for her fourth try of the day.

Special mention must go to two girls who started their first competitive game for Killarney and only playing rugby a few weeks namely, Leonie Siegrist and Roberta Tirella who put in a great action packed shift. Next up is another away fixture vs Carrick/Thurles next Saturday the 18th of March.
