Millo O’Meara tournament a huge success

Last Sunday we hosted our annual Millo O’Meara Tournament for U16 girls, in memory of our dear friend and former coach with 8 teams competing in terrible weather conditions. With teams from Clonakilty RFC, Kanturk RFC, Shannon RFC, Dunmanway/Bantry, Old Crescent/Richmond, Youghal RFC and Ballincollig RFC, the quality of rugby on display was sublime.

When the pool stages were complete, we had the Cup, Bowl and Medals finals. The winners are as follows:

2023 Millo O’Meara Cup winners – Clonakilty RFC, runners up: Killarney RFC

2023 Millo O’Meara Plate winners – Shannon, runners up: Youghal

2023 Millo O’Meara Bowl winners – Kanturk RFC, runners up: Shannon RFC

2023 Millo O’Meara Medals winners – Dunmanway/Bantry Bay, runners up: Old Crescent/Richmond

A huge thank you to all involved in the running of the day. To Anne, Fiona and Liam for all the hard work organising the whole event since before the summer.

Thanks to our excellent welcoming helpers (Mags, Sharon, Wendy and Nora) with the food and refreshments. Thank you to the excellent referees Declan, TJ, Steve, Marie and Pamela and all the coaches and dedicated players who took part especially in those conditions yesterday. Thanks to Roy for looking after the parking and of course our ball boys and runners Sean and Donncha.

Thanks also to the Order of Malta for providing First Aid cover and a huge thanks to Tom Tobin of Killarney Medals and Trophies for sponsoring the fab trophies.

All funds raised from the event go to the Kerry friends of Irish Motor Neurone disease association.
