U14 fall narrowly short in mighty comeback

U14 West Munster League – Charleville and District RFC 27 Killarney 26

The U14s showed mighty heart and spirit to run Charleville to a single point but ultimately a slow start left them with too much to do

On a heavy pitch, Charleville started fastest and scored early on. We pushed back but were caught out again when Charleville ran from deep – we were unlucky that the ref was unsighted didn’t spot what looked to be a knock forward in scoring but poor defence had allowed the opportunity. When Charleville ran in a third try – things were looking bleak, but the lads regathered themselves and came back to score a converted try just before half time. Leaving the score at 17-7 to Charleville.

A poor opening to the second half saw Charleville add a fourth try to lead 22-7. “We go again” is the motto, and Killarney responded with a try of own to get back to 22-12. Charleville then got their fifth – but this was now very much against the run of play. Pinning Charleville into their own 22, we forced a defensive error and Gearóid Moynihan scored a try and converted to leave us trailing 27-19. The lads fought on and scored a try from the last play – which converted – left us down by a fateful, single point.

This was the best team performance this season and there was much to admire as the lads played for each other to pull it back to a single point at the end.

We go again on Sunday vs Listowel !
