Round Up

Kilfeacle and District RFC 12 Killarney RFC 25

U14s undertook a “trip to Tipp” on Saturday to face Kilfeacle and District in the U14 Munster Cup. Having beaten Cashel RFC 19-0 in the first round, they were keen to keep an unbeaten record.

An early scare from Kilfeacle was only repelled by excellent scramble defence – but the shock was enough to shake the boys out of any post-bus stupor. Killarney struck back with 3 tries in the first period, and went into the break 15-0 up, although good fortune smiled on them just before halftime when a certain Kilfeacle score was denied by a knock on when grounding.

Stung – Kilfeacle bounced back and scored two quick tries early in the second period to reduce the lead to 15-12. But Killarney steeled themselves and got the last two scores while denying Kilfeacle any addition to their total. Final score – Killarney 25 Kilfeacle 12

Killarney RFC 39 Midleton RFC 0

U16s came up on rwith a wonderful performance – and an unfortunate Midleton side were on the wrong end of the showing that we’ve been threatening to do all season.

Cobh Pirates RFC 17 Killarney RFC 21

U18s claimed the honours in a thrilling and nailbiting, but tough game vs Cobh Pirates. Killarney opened with a try in the first few minutes from Chris Doody, converted by Finn Kennelly. Killarney dominated the first half and scored further tries from Kennelly and hooker Maks Leon – both converted – stretched the half time lead to 21-0. It could have been more.

Shocked – Cobh came back into the game with two unconverted tries and then a converted try to reduce the deficit to 4 points. Superb defence by Killarney kept Cobh from scoring but this was a very physical game and Killarney lost 3 players to injury and ended up playing the final moments with 14 – with a scrumhalf at full back, a winger at scrumhalf, an openside at inside centre, and a second row on the wing. In spite of this it was Killarney that threatened to get the next score but dominating territory late into the game was sufficient as the clock ran out on the Cobh comeback. Final score – Cobh Pirates 17 Killarney 21
